We are all familiar with the thumbs up or down rating
system, but there are those of us who actually enjoy really,
really, REAAAALLLLY bad movies. I'm not talking about mediocre bad
here: I'm talking so bad you can't take it seriously, so bad that
the content becomes hilarious, so bad that the movie becomes
"good" in a twisted way. "Plane 9 From Outer
Space" comes to mind, ok? It was meant to be taken
seriously, (I think), but it was sooo bad it made me laugh. So my
rating system has been built to allow for movies that are so bad
they end up being a hilarious good time as well as highlighting
the stuff I think is really awesome, like "Firefly" or
the "Lord of the Rings" Trilogies.
Stars are used to denote more serious fare: five stars means it
was great, one star means it was pretty awful. Then there are the
train wrecks: five cars means it's so bad it's funny, one car
means you shouldn't even bother. I can give kudos to my favorite
"bad" flicks while still being fairly serious in the
ones that deserve it.
No stars, no train wrecks? This only happens when what I am
writing about is so bad it doesn't deserve anything at all. "Matrix
Revolutions" comes to mind here, as it is a flick
that was meant to antagonize me, the fan. The Waskowski Brothers
meant to manipulate me, hence it wont even get one star from me.
That film sucked so badly it deserves to be lost in the annuals of
time, forgotten like a bad steak or a rotten potato or... "Aliens
3". It shouldn't be given anything because it doesn't
deserve anything. |
