Rhydin: The Lands in Which We Play:

Please note: Our site caters to Free Form role-play.  Many forms or systems of role-play can be found on AOL.  We aren’t addressing those areas/forums here. We are specifically referring to places that support FFRP.
What is Rhydin?
Rhydin City
Rhydin Prime
The Nexus
There is a lot of confusion about Rhydin.  What is it, where is itWhat’s all this about a nexusStars End Bar, in a medieval atmosphere?!

Rhydin is a little bit of everything.  From the dark dungeons and medieval fantasy locales to the high tech spaceport with a hint of every other culture, race, and time period thrown in to add a little extra spice. The most popular or often found genres are Medieval Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sci-fi. This does not mean you can’t find a place where Nineteenth Century role-play can be found, or, in fact, any time period. It really is up to you as to what and where you wanna play. Let’s begin simply, ok?

What is Rhydin?

Rhydin is two things actually; It is the name of the city and it is the name of the planet where the city resides.
  1. Rhydin City – The city was originally created with a medieval/fantasy environ in mind, but as with everything, time has created several different sectors to the massive, ever growing, always changing city of RhydinThe Red Dragon Inns, (AOL keyword: RDI,) are the primary establishments serving Rhydin City, offering patrons a medieval ambience. There are no real maps that tell us where everything is. Shared history is almost unheard of, unless you luckily stumble upon several groups that have decided to keep/create their own; otherwise it is all based on personal perception. You can literally find any type of character in Rhydin City. Although it is primarily a Medieval Setting, it is also the largest city on Rhydin Prime, so it is not unusual to find aliens and spacers walking the streets of Rhydin along side the multitude of medieval types. 3. Rhydin Prime – the planet. Rhydin City is on the planet known as Rhydin PrimeRhydin Prime’s fame is based on its connection to the Universal Nexus, a magical portal that opens to many worlds/dimensions. Rhydin Prime is located on one of the strongest nodes of this nexus.  Rhydin Prime’s Spaceport is known as The Stars End located on the coast of Rhydin City, formerly known as Land’s End, in what is now called Stars End SectorThe Stars End Bar caters to all whose path leads then into the Stars End Sector.  It is easily found if your character is brave enough. Rhydin City is not the only place on the planet, many lands can be found on Rhydin Prime, with a multitude of cities, shires, etc. No, there are no maps of the planet, if you want to know what other places exist on Rhydin Prime you can visit our Rhydin Links page and/or dig them up on your own. Again there is no defined genre; many of the lands found on Rhydin Prime are as medieval as the city proper. But Stars End serves a vast populace of space travelers of every type, race, etc. with an assortment of weapons and other high tech toys.  Face it, one can never be certain just who or what they are likely to run-in to when out on the town for the night.  Read more about Rhydin Prime here!

Nexus… huh?

What is the nexus?

Excerpt taken from Stars End Setting:

“Rhydin Prime benefits from its position near one of the strongest nodes of the universal Nexus. The universal Nexus is many things to the different people that call Rhydin "home."  On it's most basic level, the Nexus is a series of wormholes and temporal rifts, which undulate throughout the universe.  Objects or individuals absorbed into the Nexus are liable to end up anywhere its branches reach ... but more often than not they reemerge near points in space that are close to major centers of Nexal activity. The Rhydin system is one such center of activity.  On a higher level of thought, the Nexus can be regarded as shaping reality; almost assuming a deified yet non-sentient role.  In places near the tendrils of the Nexus, reality is not always what it appears to be ... in fact reality can sometimes become a purely subjective concept.  The skill to harness such energy is often roundly referred to as "magic."  As one might infer, the Rhydin system is a place rich in this energy.

Huh?

There are many shapes and forms to energy; a nexus is just that, a conglomeration of energy that can be driven by random surges, technology, manna or self will, (dependant on how it is justified by whomever uses this plot device.) The Universal Nexus is one of many nexus’. A nexus is like a portal to different worlds/dimensions. Some open to only specific places, while others can be manipulated to go where the user wants.  The Universal Nexus is known for its shifts and storms, which cause many places to move about from one end of town to the other without warning or swoop out of the blue to kidnap an unwary traveler from their current path only to drop them Gods know where.  Shifting energy of any magnitude is typically unpredictable and unstable.
